The tapas route in Seville: 7 bars and 7 must-try tapas

Seville is a city full of history, tradition, culture and, above all, gastronomy. The Andalusian capital offers a wide variety of traditional bars where you can enjoy the famous tapas. Stay with us on this short tour where we bring you the 7 bars and the 7 must-try tapas for your next visit to the city.

The truth is that selecting only 7 bars out of the nearly 4,000 in the capital is no easy task. In general, eating in Seville is affordable and the quality is very good, but if you do not want to get it wrong, grab a pen and paper and take note of our recommendations for tapas in Seville.

Bodega Santa Cruz

If you ask someone from Seville, they may not recognise this bar by its actual name, as everyone knows it as “Las Columnas”. It is one of the most iconic bars in Seville and a must-stop on your trip.

This bar, with its privileged location just 3 minutes on foot from Seville Cathedral and at the entrance to the famous Santa Cruz neighbourhood, will win you over with its typically Sevillian atmosphere.

You cannot leave without trying its “montaito de pringá”, a quintessential tapa in Seville that you will find in many bars. Although we recommend going early, as it is very popular and it is normal to queue to get a table.

Taberna Álvaro Peregil

We are not going very far, because just 1 minute on foot from Bodega Santa Cruz you will find Taberna Álvaro Peregil (no, it is not a typo, it is spelled with a “g”), on Mateos Gago street.

You cannot miss its orange wine (an aromatised wine with similarities to vermouth, although with differences in how it is made). Popular legend says that Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer himself used to come to this establishment to drink orange wine.

Whether that is true or not, we recommend going there and enjoying its montaditos accompanied by its famous wine.

Casa Ruperto

Next, we head to the heart of the Triana neighbourhood. There we find Casa Ruperto, a classic among Seville’s bars, whose star tapa is fried quail (known as pájaros or pajarillos).

An authentic bar that, even after more than 30 years, still preserves its pure Triana character.

Casa Ricardo

Get ready to try the best croquettes in Seville at Casa Ricardo, right in the city centre.

Founded in 1898, they respect tradition while reinventing Sevillian tapas with current and innovative dishes. Their croquettes are famous in Seville for being very creamy and, if you pair them with a very cold beer, you cannot go wrong.

El Rinconcillo

Right in the heart of the city, it is the oldest bar in Seville, founded in 1670. Traditional Andalusian cuisine with centuries of history that will win over every palate. There is not really one star tapa, because you will get it right with whatever you order: salmorejo, pork cheeks, croquettes, cheese, assorted fried foods, whisky sirloin, etc.

Taberna Los Coloniales

It may be one of the busiest bars in all of Seville, where either you arrive early for lunch or you will probably have to wait to get a table.

However, they have a second venue with much less traffic and the same cuisine. So take note of the address and do not think twice: Plaza Cristo de Burgos 19.

Known for its regional cuisine and generous tapas, you cannot miss its crispy aubergine with salmorejo.

Freidruía el Arenal

We finish this list with recommendations for eating fried fish. It is a small venue, but with plenty of charm, where the fried fish is of great quality at affordable prices. Located on Arfe street, you cannot miss the marinated dogfish.

If you visit Seville by car, remember that all these bars and taverns are located in the historic centre or in traditional neighbourhoods of the city such as Triana. Some streets are difficult to access, closed to traffic or have no parking availability.

The advantage is that Seville is very easy to explore on foot, so you will have no problem leaving your car parked in a car park and getting lost in this charming city while trying all its tapas.
